Good morning!
This week I’m diving deep into the rabbit hole of healthcare quackery. How did we go from trusting doctors with decades of training to hanging on every word of some Instagram influencer hawking miracle cures? The MAGA megaphone brigade has turned medical advice into a game of telephone, and somehow we’re all supposed to nod along.
Monday brings fresh chapters of my true-crime memoir “Father and Son” — years in the making, and I’m asking for your thoughts.
Tuesday delivers more of my novel “A Killing at Pine Needle Farm.” All week I’ll be pondering that question: Is there really such a thing as fiction?
Speaking of killing, Senator Joni Ernst delivered a chilling performance at her town hall, chirping with the warmth of a frozen fish stick that “we’re all going to die” when constituents dared suggest Medicaid cuts might kill people. Then in response, she posted a TikTok “apology” with all the sincerity of a used car salesman, sighing with relief she hadn’t mentioned the tooth fairy.
Thank you, Joni, you senatorial Nostradamus — who could have predicted we all die? Hopefully, people will see her vile behavior for what it was and, more importantly, who she is. Senators, like all elected officials, aren’t placed into office to steward businesses and far-right Trumpian ideology. They’re meant to serve the people they represent — all people. Serve. Key concept. Not lecture. There’s something very wrong about a woman advancing paternalism. There’s something particularly grotesque about her wielding her cruel ideology like a designer handbag — all flash, no substance, leaving everyone else to pay the price.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk — sporting a shiner — stepped down from his DOGE duties to collect his golden TACO key. Because apparently even billionaires need participation trophies.
Our tangerine-tinted commander-in-chief continues his crusade against the third branch of government, turning judicial nominations into loyalty oaths.
The world keeps bleeding — Ukraine and Israel trapped in their respective hells while Putin and Netanyahu choreograph their war-crime danse macabre with the precision of Broadway producers.
The CDC, meanwhile, is playing defense against their own boss, RFK Jr., still pushing COVID vaccines while the Trump administration slashes vaccine funding in favor of an AIDS cure.
And Harvard? Oh, sweet Harvard is finally getting its comeuppance from the Tangerine Taco himself. Call it cosmic justice for inflicting upon us that rogues’ gallery: Bannon, Kushner, Cruz, Hawley — basically a who’s who of democracy’s undertakers. The universe has quite the sense of irony, doesn’t it?
That’s this week’s dispatch from the night-sweat-filled dream we call America. Stay tuned and don’t let the bastards wear you down.
